Family Type Differences in Children’s Satisfaction with People They Live with and Perceptions about Their (Step)parents’ Parenting Practices

Family complexity is increasing in Europe, experienced by a significant proportion of children. More evidence needed Europe how children’s family type influences their well-being, especially family-related subjective and to what extent parenting practices are playing role these relationships. The aim the paper study perceptions children who live with two biological parents, stepparent, or single parent about (step)parents satisfaction people they with. analysis based on third wave “Children’s Worlds” harmonized dataset 12-year-old Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Romania. findings reveal ‘cascade appraisals’ types—overall, living parents least stepparent most complex environment for children, reflected highest lowest evaluations respectively. analyses showed that simple differences well-being entirely explained but not almost at all To conclude, caring, safe, participation-enhancing atmosphere, can be inclusively flexible adapt new parent-figures.
